Will signing an exclusive contract destroy your acting career? Actors should beware, before signing an exclusive agents contract. It is essential that the actor knows exactly what they are signing before making that commitment.

This is especially true for exclusive contracts. Exclusivity can mean
different things.

1. Is the actor exclusive to the agent in just one market?
2. Is the actor exclusive to the agent around the globe?
3. Is the actor only exclusive to the agent for one area of the industry?

In larger markets, some actors are exclusive to an agent for one
part of the industry, such as: exclusive for TV and film. The actor
could have an exclusive contract for TV commercials with another
agent at a different agency.

It is so important for actors to know exactly what they are signing.
These are legal documents and the actor needs to abide by the
words spelled out in the contract.

Have You Signed a Contract With An Agent?

Have ever signed an agency contract? Was it an exclusive
contract? If so, please share your experience in the
description section of my acting and modeling quick tips channel.

Did you know exactly what you were signing? Had you showed
it to an attorney or ask your questions to the agent? Were there
any surprises after signing the contract?

This famous actor actually deceived me –
really shocking

In this video I share an incredible story of what took place, behind the scenes while working on a TV show. Even though it has been many years, I am still shocked about this experience where a famous actor lied to my face. Even though it was a very uncomfortable situation, it taught me some valuable lessons.

Whether you are just beginning in the acting industry or have been working for a while, these invaluable lessons I learned from this helped me learn:

Listen very carefully to what is said to you, but filter everything you hear
Have a better understanding of the workings in the acting world
Actors can never take things personally in the industry

In this video I share one of the many things I have learned from my 41 + years of working as a full-time actor and how this crazy moment helped shape my perspectives in the industry.

The TV Show That Made History: For The Wrong Reason

Unfortunately, this TV show made history, but for the wrong reason. In this video I share my experience working on the 2013 TV show Do No Harm. This series was filled with incredible potential and a star-studded cast, including Steven Pasquale, Phylicia Rashad, Lin-Manuel Miranda, F. Murray Abraham, James Cromwell, and Jurnee Smollett. Despite its big names and high expectations, the show set an unfortunate record as one of the shortest-lived TV series, airing only 2 episodes before being canceled.

I was thrilled to be cast as a day player in this production, playing the head of the hospital where the main characters worked. Sadly, the series met its untimely end after just two episodes aired, with the remaining 10 episodes quietly released during the summer.

Join me as I reflect on this bittersweet yet wonderful experience of auditioning, getting cast, and working alongside talented actors like Phylicia Rashad, Steven Pasquale and Jurnee Smollett. Discover what went wrong with Do No Harm and the lessons I learned about the unpredictability of TV success.

5 Powerful Reasons For Declining Acting Jobs and Auditions

5 Powerful Reasons For Declining Acting Jobs

I have always found it difficult turning down acting jobs. Out of nearly 1,300 bookings, I’ve only turned down less than 10, besides the situations where I was already booked.

Having said that, there are times when saying ‘no’ is necessary and this decision can be very helpful to your acting career. In this video, I share five important reasons why you might want to decline a job or audition, even when it seems like a difficult decision.

1 Example When Declining a Job Can Help Your Career

If you are auditioning or offered a commercial job, either a TV commercial or commercial modeling project and the company wants to use your image in perpetuity, that might haunt you at some point.

If your image is connected to a specific product, then you might not be able to ever work for a competitor of that product. This could cost you a lot of money in the future. I have only accepted two jobs in that situation. One was for a regional pest control company. I didn’t think it would ever impact on me working for a national brand. The same was true for a local hotel.

Never Expected This To Happen

To obtain my Secret Clearance I met with someone in a public place. He interviewed me in a Barnes & Noble Book Store. Many personal questions were asked. It was very wild.

In the video, I explain what educational, corporate and training films are all about. They can be very interesting and lucrative jobs. And, you might be able to find some near you.

Stop using Ring Lights Incorrectly.

Stop Using Ring Lights Incorrectly

When I first starting shooting home auditions, I was using ring lights incorrectly.
I noticed that the ring light created round dots and circles in my eyes. I knew this would not look good for casting directors. And, I heard some casting directors say how distracting it was for them while watching auditions.

The Right Fix

Ring lights can be a great tool when used correctly. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to properly
place the ring light to make my face look clean, clear and not have any background shadows. I also discovered that using other lights in conjunction with a ring light really made the audition look great.

Watch the video and learn how to best position the ring light and what other lights I use when shooting home auditions.

1 Crazy Thing I Did For This Insanely Unusual Job

I have done many types of acting jobs. This might have been one of the craziest
things I did. It was an insanely unusual job.

In my 40 years as a full-time actor, I have worked on TV shows, feature, independent, student and training films, TV commercials, radio spots, narrations, stunts and commercial modeling projects.

I have also done a couple of promotional projects.

What Are Promotional Jobs?

There are many different types of promotional jobs that can be found across the United States.
Some of these jobs could be as simple as someone handing out a product to people walking down the street.

Others might have people interacting with possible customers at conventions to share information
about the company or help guide them to a booth.

This Was A Very Unusual Job

I actually had the opportunity to lie in a reclining chair simulating that I was having
a dialysis treatment

The client wanted me to look as realistic as possible. They said during dialysis, some people read,
talk on their phone or even sleep.

Watch the video and learn exactly what I did for this insanely unusual job.
