What You Need To Know About Actor’s Modified Local Contracts

All actors need to know about contracts. There are different types of acting contracts. In this video, you will learn about an actor’s local contract and a modified local contract. Every actor needs to understand what they mean and which one they should ask for.

Local Contracts

Local contracts for actors can mean different things. Some local contracts state that the actor needs to be a resident of the state where production is happening.

Other local contracts simply mean that actors are willing to work as a local. This means that production will not cover travel, lodging or pay per diem money to actors.

Watch the video and learn more details about local and modified local contracts.

Not Sure If Actors Are Wasting Time And Money At Acting School

Are Actors Wasting Time And Money At Acting School

Are you wondering if it’s really necessary to attend acting school? This is a complicated
decision and not an easy one to make.

Having the skills to be a great actor is absolutely necessary to anyone wanting to have success in the industry.

Some people (very few) are born with innate acting skills. I have found that to be the exception to the rule. Most of the successful actors you see in film and TV and work regularly have studied acting for many years.

The really tough decision is whether you will be best served by becoming a
theater major at a college or university, attend an acting conservatory
or perhaps it be best to find a great local teacher or class, to help you learn the needed acting
skills.

Have You Taken Acting Classes?

If you have studied privately, taken local acting classes
or went to an acting conservatory or were a theater major

Best Way to Handle Audition Notes

How to Handle Audition Notes

It’s not unusual for writers to place notes in the sides for actors to use during auditions. They will state the type of reaction they feel is appropriate for the character.

The notes could state the character should scream, cry or is shocked at specific spots in the audition.

Actors should always read the notes. However, I don’t believe actors have to follow
the notes. Writers are writers. Actors are actors. Actors are the ones who should decide what our character needs to do throughout the audition.

Have You Ever Had To Deal With Actors Notes

Have you ever followed or disregarded the writer’s notes? If so, leave a comment

This 1 Tip Will Make Your Audition Powerful

Auditioning for film, TV or commercials can be very hard. Sometimes, auditions are more difficult than performing the scene on the set.

I have heard some extremely talented actors say that they don’t audition well.
Until you reach the level of being asked to work on a project, without auditioning,
then learning how to give great auditions are essential.

1 Tip That Will Make Your Audition More Powerful

Many actors stop their audition after saying their last word or after the
last word was said by the other actor. This ends the audition prematurely.

Extend The Audition To Make Your Audition More Powerful

Adding 1-3 seconds to the end of the audition will make a big
difference. When you watch the video, you will learn very specifically
how this is done. This allows the quick tip video and learn how
you can incorporate this technique into your audition.

How Can This Guy Not Make You Feel Better

There Are 2 Words That Changed My Life And Acting Career For The Better

As you well know, an actors life can be very rewarding and stressful at times. We feel like there are
so many things that we have to accomplish. Quite often each task feels like a priority.

I used to think about all of the things I had to get done:

More marketing to keep my name fresh in people’s brains
Study and prepare to shoot and upload an audition
Think about my next headshot and update my resume
Gather material together for a new film/TV or other reels
Return phone calls/emails/texts
And, so many other things – not to mention travel to work on a set

Below Are The 2 Words That Changed My Life

Instead of thinking or saying, “I have to do this,” now I say
“I get to do this.” It is so true. I now get to do so many incredible
things.

These 2 words literally changed the way I think and approach my
to do list.

I feel so much more free and just enjoy the fact that I get to do these
amazing things.

I had a foot modeling go-see (audition for models)

A Bizarre Modeling Casting Call Happened To Me

I had an incredibly bizarre modeling casting (go-see) in New York. It was a foot modeling job.
In the past I had done some hand modeling jobs, but never a foot modeling job.

What The Photographer Said During the Modeling Casting

After signing in and filling out the paper work, I removed my shoes and socks.
He placed the camera close to my foot. As I stood there, apparently he was not
happy with the “look” so he asked me this question.

“Can you make your feet look a little friendlier?” I am not kidding. I did my best,
but I guess my feet did not have the fuzzy and warm look that was needed for
the shoot.

A Great Hand Modeling TV Spot

Loved Working With Vincent D’Onofrio On Law & Order: CI

It’s So Important to Learn This 1 Way to Act With Famous Actors

I have been so fortunate to have worked with some Academy Award winning and one Tony Award winning actors. At first it was very intimidating. Then I learned that they are like me, just people who are
also actors.

I Figured Out a Way to Act With Famous Actors

I stopped thinking about how well-known the actor was I had a scene with. Instead,
I concentrated on the perfect way to prepare the scene with each actor. It was all
based on what our scene was about.

1 Famous Actor I Worked With Was Phylicia Rashod

I had a few scenes with Phylicia Rashod. I was the president of the hospital
and she worked there as well.

Aaron Marcus with Phylicia Rashad

Since we mostly had business dealings at the hospital, I did not want to become too
personal with her prior to our scene. We had some nice short conversations.
Hope you like the toupee my character wore!!

1 Very Different Approach When Working With Famous Actors

When I worked with Ellen Burstyn, on House of Cards, I used a very different approach.

scene.

My 1 Simple Secret For Booking Nearly 1,300 Acting Jobs

Read About My 1 Simple Secret For Booking Nearly 1,300 Jobs

This idea took me several years to figure out. I noticed that I was
getting auditions and bookings for a certain type.

Industry professionals were viewing me as the “regular guy.” I was
seen as successful, highly educated, friendly, kind and approachable.

My 1 Simple Secret For Booking Jobs Is Not
Based On Reality

I am thought of as regular guy who is highly educated. Ironically, I don’t have a college degree.
But, I get booked as a doctor, lawyer, teacher, professor and other types
of professionals.

How Do I Use This Secret To Book Jobs?

Instead of fighting my type as the “regular guy,” I embrace it. Sure, it
would feel better if I was viewed as the good looking leading man type,
but that is not my look.

Don’t Fight Your Type – Embrace It

I use my regular guy type as my strength. My headshots show this very clearly.
To succeed as an actor, one needs to know their type and use it to the
best of their abilities. There is a lot of work for the non-handsome/beautiful looking
person.

Now You Will Really Know About An Actor’s Life On A Movie

This happened to me before I began working on the movie, Project Almanac.
As I was boarding my flight to Atlanta, I noticed on my phone
that many of my lines for the movie had changed. That is not
unusual.

What My Life Was Like On The Flight

I quickly wrote down all of my lines for the next day’s shoot. I began
reading the lines over and over. My character didn’t change, just the
words. I’m sure the people sitting near me might have been a little
concerned watching someone mumble to themselves for 2 hours.

Another Change That Happened During This Movie

My hotel pickup time stayed the same, but they changed the
shoot schedule. My scene was shot much earlier in the day.

You barely see me in the scene.
I am the teacher who is very boring and giving a lesson about President
Lincoln and the Civil War.

The Hardest Part Of Delivering My Lines In The Movie

The camera was focused on one of the students (one of the stars of the film.)
The director explained to me where he wanted me to walk while giving my speech
and where I needed to land for certain words.

We only needed around 7 or 8 takes and we were done shooting. It was such a fun
day.

Feeling Unhappy About Yourself Because of Work

Beware If You Think This You Will Have a Miserable Life

It is so easy and normal for actors to feel bad about themselves if they
are not booking jobs or having the success they expect and desire.

I tortured myself by constantly questioning my acting and people skills If I didn’t
get an audition, job or felt that I wasn’t liked by other industry professionals. I
would feel miserable.

After many years in the industry, I learned that most decisions in the acting and
modeling industry are simply business not personal ones.

This Made My Life Less Miserable And Much Happier

I finally learned that booking a job in some ways has nothing to do with an actors
audition. Yes, of course, the audition needs to be good and interesting. But, most
actors are providing that during their read.

There are many other reasons why someone if offered the role. They just have to
be the perfect person for the job. It is not like the Olympics, where whoever performs
the best wins the Gold Medal. Getting the booking comes down to factors we have
no control over.

Watch This Video And Feel Less Miserable

After watching this video you will learn why we have full control
over our audition and no control over who gets booked.

I am hoping that you aren’t not like the old me and takes things personally when
you aren’t happy with your lack of success in the acting or modeling industry.

It is fine to feel bad, but please, understand that if you are a good person, then you will always be a good person, whether you get the booking or not.

All Actors Should Learn About These 9 Huge Actor’s Tax Write Offs

There are some tax write offs that actors might not know about.
And, some that are not legal to deduct from their taxes.

Can Wardrobe Be Deducted On An Actor’s Tax Filing?

I am not an accountant or CPA, so everything I share here must be
confirmed by a tax professional. But, here is what I have learned from
working with a CPA and by listening to others discuss taxes for actors.

Is Wardrobe A Write Off For Actors

I have been told that even if an actor purchases wardrobe, specifically for a project,
if the wardrobe could be worn in every day life, it can NOT be deducted. However,
there are specific types of clothing that can be a tax write off. If one has to buy a special
outfit for a performance, that would never be worn in public, then it can be a tax write off.

If an actor is working in Las Vegas, and buys a very unusual outfit that is only be worn
for the show, then that could be deductible.

Another Possible Tax Write Off For Actors

I have been told that if an actor uses a cell phone to shoot home auditions, then a percentage
of the cell phone expenses (depending on how often the phone is used for recording auditions) can
be deducted.

Sometimes 1 Word Auditions Are Difficult

When actors receive the sides (the short portion of the script that we read for the audition) that have 1 word in their audition, it can be confusing for actors. Some actors feel angry and feel like they are wasting their time. Or, they think that the casting director has no respect for their acting skills and that is why they only have 1 word to say.

What Some Actors Don’t Understand About 1 Word Auditions

For the actors who get upset and think the casting director is disrespecting them,
they are wrong. No writer will place one word in a script unless it is important.
Saying one word or pages of dialogue can be difficult. The reason the actor
was requested to audition for the role is because the casting director thinks the actor is perfect
for the character.

Actors Need to Decide Whose Scene It Is

Knowing who the scene is about is a necessary part of audition
preparation for all projects. If the scene is not about you, don’t
try and make it about yourself. Sometimes the 1 word is said to
set up the scene for someone else. Or the scene is all about
the actor with 1 word.

All actors need to know that they should never say this to fellow actors. In this video, I share two situations where actors said really inappropriate things to other actors. One of the other actors was me.

What Another Actor Said to Me – That They Never Should Have Said

I was rehearsing a scene before we began shooting with the other actor in the scene.
When we finished, the other actor began to tell me how I should be saying my lines.
Honestly, I was furious. I didn’t want to create a scene on the set, so I calmly told
the other actor that if the director has an issue with the way my lines are delivered,
he will tell me.

Actors Should Never Say This to Actors

If an actor is struggling with their lines and ask for help,
then, of course feel free to share your thoughts. Otherwise,
never ever say anything to another actor about how the lines
“should be read.” It is inappropriate. It is always up to the director
to give notes if a read needs to change.

Something Else That Never Should Have Been Said to An Actor

Watch the video and learn what else was said to an actor that should never
have been done.
