At the beginning of my career (actually for the first few years) I fell into this audition trap that hurt my career and life. Not booking jobs is a major part of being an actor. But, unlike other jobs, this feels like a personal statement: “We don’t want you.”

For many years, I took that “No” to heart. It didn’t just hurt my career; it hurt my self-worth as a person. It took me many years to figure out how to separate the business from my personal life so I could actually survive and succeed in this industry for 40 years.

I finally figured it out, and I’m sharing the breakdown in this week’s video: Click Here to Watch If you’re struggling with rejection right now—whether it’s from an agent or a casting director—I made this for you.

We Want to Learn From You

Have you ever felt like a rejection was a personal attack? How did you handle that emotion? Share your experience on the Channel so we can all support each other! I read every shared story and will comment if asked.

Is your acting agent ghosting you? If so, ask this 1 question before leaving.

Are you feeling lost with your acting agent? Getting the auditions you want? Is your agent actually pitching you, or are you just a name on a roster?

If you are feeling ready to move on and find another agent to work with, you need to watch this video first. Knowing when to move on is essential in this industry. If you stay too long out of fear, you’re stalling your own momentum.

In today’s Quick Tip, I’m sharing how to figure out if it’s really the right time to leave or stay by asking one crucial question to your agent.

The “Best Way” to leave:

  • Check your contract (termination clauses matter!)
  • Keep it professional, not personal (never burn bridges)
  • Always ask this 1 question

Do you know the one huge audition mistake that can ruin your reputation as an actor with a great Casting Director? (Hint: It’s not about losing the job).

In this industry, my quick tips are always about the truth—even when it doesn’t make me look good. A few years ago, I rushed through and submitted an audition for a short film that didn’t seem all that interesting. I never heard back with a call back or booking and I have to say, I actually felt relieved.

Sometime later, I looked up the Casting Director and realized she cast some big projects. I hadn’t just lost a job; I had potentially damaged a professional relationship.

In this video, I share the specific lessons I learned from this big audition mistake that I will never make again.

In this video, you will learn why I said no to a $2,00 booking and why you should too.

There was one word in the commercial modeling job’s description that can RUIN an acting and commercial modeling career.

I have found that a number of actors and commercial models see a $2,000 paycheck and sign immediately—but if you don’t check the “Usage” section of your contract, you could be banning yourself from working for an entire industry for the rest of your life.

It is so important when doing an ad that we don’t lock ourselves into having to turn down future bookings due to conflicts.
That means, if you have an ad running for lets say, a fast food restaurant, you most likely will not be able to work for any other
fast food restaurant while the ad is running.

Watch this video and learn:

✅ What “In Perpetuity” actually means for your wallet.
✅ Why a $2,000 win today can be a $20,000 loss tomorrow.
✅ The 3 questions you MUST ask your agent before accepting a booking.

Alysa Liu’s Olympic win was totally due to her mindset. It is the same way of thinking that actors need to use when auditioning for film, TV or TV commercials.  Alysa, walked away from skating
at age 16. Four years later, she decided to return to the sport on her terms. Her technique was still amazing. But, it was her new approach to skating that showed in every moment of her performance. This is the exact same mindset that I share with every actor I coach.

Alysa completely shifted her goals during the Olympics. She never tried or cared about winning a medal. Her goal was to simply enjoy herself! All she wanted to do was share her artistry and skills with the world and have fun performing. That is exactly what actors need to be thinking. Not booking the job, but enjoying the few minutes we get to portray a character.

What you’ll learn In This Video:

  • How Alysa Liu’s mindset made her stand apart from the other skaters
  • How this mindset should be used by actors when auditioning
  • Why this mindset will make actors’ auditions more memorable and powerful

Been submitted 20+ times, still no auditions? Try these 4 things that work.

you’re not alone – and it’s probably NOT about your talent.

In this video, I share 4 specific things that actually help actors get more auditions, even when the odds feel impossible.

You’ll discover:

  • Why actors aren’t getting called in for auditions (and how to fix it)
  • The materials casting directors look for before requesting you
  • Why having a reel or slate on Actors Access will help you stand out
  • Why effective headshots and proper resume formatting make a huge difference
  • A different way of thinking that keeps you confident through constant rejection

The audition numbers can be brutal – sometimes 1,000+ actors get submitted for a single role. This varies depending on the project, but I’ve had many casting directors tell me it isn’t unusual for them to only invite around 30 actors to read for one role.

With the right materials and approach, you can improve your odds of getting requested to read for a role.

After 40+ years as a full-time actor, I’ve learned that booking work starts with getting the audition. These 4 strategies work.

All actors need to learn about this revolutionary $Billion filming format that hires Union and Non-Union Actors

What it is: So what is vertical filmmaking? Instead of shooting horizontally like traditional film and TV, these shows are shot vertically—specifically for your phone. They started in China around 2017 and now they’re exploding in the US.

The format: These are called micro-dramas. Each episode is 1-2 minutes long, usually in romance or fantasy genres. They end on cliffhangers so viewers binge the next episode. Think of it like TikTok meets a TV series.

The opportunity: Here’s why this matters to you: these productions are hiring constantly. Both union and non-union. Companies like Crazy Maple Studios are cranking out content daily and bringing in a billion dollars annually through apps like ReelShort.

Union details: SAG-AFTRA just created a special contract for vertical content. Productions with budgets under $300,000 can hire union actors at $250 for 8 hours or $468 for 12 hours. Yes, that’s lower than typical union rates, but these are shorter shoots with way more volume.

Non-union opportunities: And if you’re non-union, there are even more opportunities. Most vertical productions are still non-union, which means more roles available for emerging actors.

Where they’re distributed: These shows live on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and specialized apps. ReelShort alone brings in a billion dollars a year just from ads and in-app purchases.

Actors can get work without an agent. But, it is always better for an actor to find representation with an agent to get work. An agent will:

  • Hear about more job opportunities
  • Know if the job is legitimate
  • Negotiate the proper fees for actors
  • Help make sure actors get paid

Agents prefer to have actors ready to be submitted and have faith that the actor can perform with great skill and work as a professional. The best way to have agents want to work with an actor is to make sure the actor has the right materials:

  • An effective headshot and resume that industry professionals expect
  • Having experience will also be very helpful.
  • Sometimes, agents will represent an actor whom they think has potential

IN THIS VIDEO You will learn:

  • How to get acting work
  • How to find agents
  • How to find acting jobs
  • Best ways to submit to agents
  • How to make sure the agent is legit
  • Is it necessary to have an acting reel

I was in physical danger on a set. Here’s how I stayed professional and safe.

I was asked if I was comfortable working with a monkey for a national print ad campaign. The concept for this bank was “Get The Monkey Off Your Back”. I was incredibly excited because I love being around and especially working with animals. It ended up being a very dangerous situation after the Capuchin monkey, who was sitting on my shoulder, attacked the assistant photographer after only 7 shots were taken. About 20 minutes after the assistant was rushed to the emergency room, “Freddy” seemed to calm down. When the art director from the ad agency asked me to continue shooting, I knew this would never happen. As much as I liked Freddy, we were never going to work together again. I had to make a quick decision how to handle this difficult situation.

In this video, I share:

✅ Greater details of the incident
✅ How I professionally said NO without burning bridges
✅ Why protecting yourself on set is NON-NEGOTIABLE
✅ How to handle unsafe situations while staying professional
✅ The exact words I used to decline without seeming difficult

Every actor and model could face moments where safety conflicts with professionalism. Learn how to navigate these situations and protect your career AND your body. Agents decide whether they’ll sign you in the first 5 minutes of a meeting. Most actors walk in unprepared and lose the opportunity before it even starts.

In this video, I break down the 2 things I do before EVERY agent meeting that gives me a massive advantage. First, I research the agent. Not just their client roster—I’m talking about their background, where they grew up, went to school, their interests and hobbies. This helps me understand who they are as a person, not just as a gatekeeper.

When you know what matters to them, you can have a real conversation instead of a generic pitch. And, if you have things in common, make sure you bring it into the conversation. Second, I prepare for the questions they’ll most likely ask. “Tell me about yourself” isn’t an invitation to list your credits—they can see your resume. Instead, talk about who you are and what you’re passionate about.

When they ask, “Why do you want to be an actor?” – don’t talk about fame or money. Discuss your genuine love for the craft. And here’s the key: come prepared with YOUR OWN questions. Ask the agent how they see you being cast. What types of roles would they submit you for?

This shows you’re serious, thinking strategically, and it will give you a better sense how you are viewed in the industry. If you hear the same thing from a few agents, then you know, this is “your type,” and these are the types of roles you should be considering.

This is invaluable information. Preparation separates actors who get signed from actors who get forgotten. Don’t waste your opportunity.

Should you list extra work on your acting resume? In this video, I share two ideas about whether listing extra work can help or hurt your career as an actor. Extra work doesn’t necessarily showcase your acting skills – you could be one of hundreds or thousands in a crowd scene. However, I’ll share how I turned extra work into on-camera upgrades by using my acting training, and explain the ONE situation where listing background work might make sense. An Actor Was Fired For Making This Instagram Post An actor booked a TV role, posted about it on Instagram, and was fired before filming began. When Actors Tell You Don’t Even Try – What They Really Mean Is

Four years into my acting career, I told other actors I wanted to break into New York. Several of them immediately warned me: “You’ll just get your heart broken. They already have so many talented actors there. Don’t bother wasting your time.”

I almost listened. But then I realized something that changed everything about how I viewed advice from other actors and people in general.

This video is about recognizing when another actor’s “concern” is actually about THEIR fear, not your reality. Because here’s what I’ve learned: I could live with not succeeding in New York. What I couldn’t live with was never trying.

If you’re an actor considering a bigger market, dealing with discouragement from peers, or wondering whether you should take that leap – this video’s for you.
