At the beginning of my career (actually for the first few years) I fell into this audition trap that hurt my career and life.
Not booking jobs is a major part of being an actor. But, unlike other jobs, this feels like a personal statement: “We don’t want you.”
For many years, I took that “No” to heart. It didn’t just hurt my career; it hurt my self-worth as a person. It took me many years to figure out how to separate the business from my personal life so I could actually survive and succeed in this industry for 40 years.
