Agents Know in 5 Minutes If They’ll Sign You (Here’s How to Prepare)

Agents decide whether they’ll sign you in the first 5 minutes of a meeting. Most actors walk in unprepared and lose the opportunity before it even starts. In this video, I break down the 2 things I do before EVERY agent meeting that gives me a massive advantage. First, I research the agent. Not just their client roster—I’m talking about their background, where they grew up, went to school, their interests and hobbies. This helps me understand who they are as a person, not just as a gatekeeper. When you know what matters to them, you can have a real conversation instead of a generic pitch. And, if you have things in common, make sure you bring it into the conversation. Second, I prepare for the questions they’ll most likely ask. “Tell me about yourself” isn’t an invitation to list your credits—they can see your resume. Instead, talk about who you are and what you’re passionate about. When they ask, “Why do you want to be an actor?” – don’t talk about fame or money. Discuss your genuine love for the craft. And here’s the key: come prepared with YOUR OWN questions. Ask the agent how they see you being cast. What types of roles would they submit you for? This shows you’re serious, thinking strategically, and it will give you a better sense how you are viewed in the industry. If you hear the same thing from a few agents, then you know, this is “your type,” and these are the types of roles you should be considering. This is invaluable information. Preparation separates actors who get signed from actors who get forgotten. Don’t waste your opportunity. HAVE YOU HAD A MEETING WITH AN AGENT? What took place during the meeting?
